SOAPSTONE

A non-porous material, the traditional use of soapstone was the laboratory tabletops of chemistry labs. That application alone should serve as a great testimonial to the chemical and bacterial resistance of soapstone. One of the softer varieties of dimensional stone types, soapstone does not have a particularly high abrasion or scratch resistance, yet it is durable enough to be used for flooring, countertops, stoves, sinks, and is also uniquely suited for fireplace surrounds due to its high level of heat resistance. Soapstone is also popular as an environmentally friendly countertop choice. It’s 100% natural and can be completely recycled and does not require any toxic chemicals for cleaning and sealing.
